Why it’s good that Teen Wolf is addressing mental illness

youcancallmecaptaingally:

I think it’s good that Teen Wolf are now looking into mental illness more in Season 5. It was touched upon in Season 4 when Liam was suffering flashbacks and visions from his trauma over being attacked by a Berserker. Liam got over it by the end of the season with some useful words from Brett and facing his fear by helping his Alpha and friend Scott.

Stiles has suffered from panic attacks from his mother’s death and Isaac is triggered by his past abuse from his father, just a small space can trigger him into full blown panic that makes him shift.

With Scott, it’s going to be a breakdown, I think this is really important that it’s going to be on the show, as Scott really has been bottling things up. He was a normal person who got turned by an Alpha, the same Alpha who wanted Scott to kill for him and when he refused, he tormented Scott with visions of him killing people and then forced him to turn against his will, only to then trick Scott’s own pack into killing him last season. His first love died in his arms while his best friend was possessed. Last season, Scott took on the job of protecting everybody from the deadpool list as he didn’t want to see more people hurt. He’s just 17! We’ve seen Scott lose it when he attacked the Hunter, turning into a monster for a few moments.

Scott has bottled things up for a very long time and it’s getting too much for him and he can’t take no more as he’s been too strong for far too long. He breaks down, but puts on a brave face as he’s the Alpha and his pack needs him to lead them. Hopefully, if this is done right, we’ll see Scott getting better with therapy or medication, which could help fans watching see that it’s okay to seek help. Tyler Posey always speaks out about mental health, and about how its important to get help. Hopefully if fans see their hero getting help, maybe they will too.

god bless teen wolf’s portrayal of first love.

bless the idea that your first love isn’t (always) your only love.

bless the idea that you can move on, that you can be happy with someone else, that you can be happy for your first love when they move on and are happy with someone else.

bless the idea that moving on doesn’t make your first love any less significant.

bless scott and allison’s cute romantic puppy love that burned bright and ended too soon.

bless scott being okay with isaac being allison’s emotional tether and allison nodding her acceptance to scott and kira.

bless scott feeling every piece of his heart break when allison ~moved to france~ and still feeling it every single time he thinks about how she’s gone, even though he’s falling for someone else.

bless it all.

teen wolf has it’s problems, no doubt. but i really appreciate this.
